We’re Alex and Sarah.

We first met bounding about in sweaty fitness classes at our local gym in Malmesbury, Wiltshire UK.

One day in 2019, Sarah happened to mention that they needed extra helpers for their olive harvest in Sicily.  Sarah and her husband, Paolo, are the British-Scillian founders of Alivu Sicily, artisan Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Weirdly, Alex had just bought two €1 houses in Sicily, not far from the Alivu family olive groves.  Completely coincidentally, Sarah and Alex become neighbours in two countries, with a shared love-hate of RPM classes and mutual passion for Sicily, nature and slow food.

Together, we’ll be digging deeper into the weird and wonderful phenomenon of Italy’s abandoned €1 houses, de-mystifying the process and sharing the magic of Sicily.
